Muppet Christmas Carol at #6 is solid, but I'm kinda surprised It's a Wonderful Life is way down at #141. That one usually gets talked about as peak Christmas cinema. I rewatched The Shop Around the Corner last month and teh charm realy holds up even though its a '40s romcom that doesnt scream holiday vibes at first. Also love that A Smoky Mountain Christmas made the list, thats deep cut territory that most people sleep on these days. Curious what moved some films off the list, like maybe newer films pushed them out or they just didn't hit the same on a rewatch?
Every day the number of movies I have seen grows, and so my Top 200 has to accommodate more and more excellent work. So, yes, films are constantly being “pushed off.” It is actually very rare for me to like a movie less on a rewatch. I can only remember one or two movies that got dropped off the list that way.
I have to say, though, that I suspect mine is one of the few serious Top 200 lists that includes six Christmas movies. Also, the list’s order is always in flux. It’s a Wonderful Life (while not a great “Christmas movie” but a great movie that seems to be put in the Christmas category) has been all up and down it, higher and lower. It’s the love story that I like there: the whole moon scene!
