The Christmas Films on My Top 200
...and those that used to be
I’ve been whalloped with a flu/Covid-thing, and so my recent activity here has been slow. Sorry. I haven’t been able to get to the movie theatre. I am finally on the upswing, and I thought it might be seasonal to share the Christmas movies that are on my Top 200 Movies List.
Note: If you’re one of those “Die Hard is a Christmas movie” people, then there are more, most notably Eyes Wide Shut, which is way more a Christmas film than Die Hard. Also, All Of Us Strangers may be a legitimate Christmas film under any standard. Also, The Green Knight…? In Bruges? (I feel another list forming.)
#6 — The Muppet Christmas Carol
#67 — Christmas in Connecticut
#117 — A Smoky Mountain Christmas
#141 — It’s a Wonderful Life
#153 — The Shop Around the Corner
#168 — Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964)
Previously on the list: The Bishop’s Wife, Christmas Eve on Sesame Street, The Christmas Toy, Emmet Otter’s Jugband Christmas, How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966), It Happened on 5th Avenue, The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus, Love Actually, Miracle on 34th Street (1947), A Muppet Family Christmas, The Year Without a Santa Claus (1974).
And don’t forget to watch Rudolph’s Shiny New Year on the 31st!

Muppet Christmas Carol at #6 is solid, but I'm kinda surprised It's a Wonderful Life is way down at #141. That one usually gets talked about as peak Christmas cinema. I rewatched The Shop Around the Corner last month and teh charm realy holds up even though its a '40s romcom that doesnt scream holiday vibes at first. Also love that A Smoky Mountain Christmas made the list, thats deep cut territory that most people sleep on these days. Curious what moved some films off the list, like maybe newer films pushed them out or they just didn't hit the same on a rewatch?
