Nagisa Oshima is quickly earning a rabid new fan. While this film does not play around with reality and genre like his later 60s work, it does experiment with visuals (over 2,000 cuts in 99 minutes!) and viewer assumptions.

To be fair, the serial killer genre may not have been properly established by 1966, but Violence at Noon nonetheless refuses to stay…
