The Critics Choice Award nominations

Award season has started up, with groups like The American Film Institute, The New York Film Critics, and The LA Film Critics Association announcing their picks for the best of film in 2023. At the same time, nominations are being announced for The Independent Spirit Awards and The Golden Globes. While neither of those may have too much bearing on the still-to-come Oscar noms, they’ve revealed some trends (like Lily Gladstone domination in Best Actress). I am more interested in the nominations announced today for The Critics Choice Awards. Again, none of these voters has a say at the Oscars, but they usually do a decent job at making picks I can stand behind. Here they are, with some happy surprises (Cooper for Director — yes! Ferrera finally breaks into Supporting Actress!).
