Does First Class live up to its name?

It's hard to find a bigger X-Men fan than me.  I have thousands of the comics, the animated TV series and live-action films on DVD, complete sets of collectors' cards, etc.  And yet it was with great trepidation that I entered to the midnight debut showing of the new film X-Men: First Class.  Why?  The trailers hadn't won me over.  But would the film?
