The Artist is a canny silent film pastiche with a simple plot mixing A Star Is Born, Sunset Boulevard, and Singin' in the Rain.  Right out of the gate, it's easy to see that this one won't be a box office smash or play well in, say, Binghamton, NY.  But I'm grateful we got it in our theatre (though out of the 5 of us in the audience, 2 left after 30 min…
