I’ve never understood why this excellent movie, which won Joseph L. Mankiewicz Oscars for screenplay and directing as well as being in the five Best Picture nominees in 1950, has retained such a low profile. Most people don’t even know the title. And yet it’s a wonderful (but, yes, of its time) film with a great hook, a light touch, and clever banter.
